2020
In January 2020 students from eight schools took part in a workshop to generate images for the posters for the 2020 Art Matters exhibition. While this exhibition was cancelled because of the Covid 19 pandemic, we’d like to celebrate these workshops and share the images here
The focus of these workshops was on using natural forms to create
‘Imaginary Ecosystems’.
This was a response to the growing concerns about climate change and the damage being done by humans to fragile ecosystems.
The students looked at the work of artists Yellena James, Pinar Yoldas and Courtney Mattison. They all use the natural world as a starting point for their work and use a range of techniques and media to apply their designs to boxes which were then stacked to construct a structure representing an imaginary ecosystem incorporating all their designs.
